La prosa tedesca unisce liberamente le frasi, spesso contenendo due o tre idee collegate dove l'inglese userebbe punti fermi. Ecco perché la prosa tedesca sembra lunga: non è verbosità, è una diversa tolleranza per la lunghezza delle frasi. Imparare a usare 'und', 'aber' e 'denn' è il primo passo per leggere un giornale tedesco senza rimanere senza fiato.
Common questions
+Do these conjunctions change the word order?
Il gruppo subordinante (perché, che, quando, sebbene) sposta il verbo alla fine.
+What is the difference between denn and weil?
Meaning: none, both are "because". Grammar: denn leaves the verb in position two, weil sends it to the end. Ich bleibe, denn ich bin müde / Ich bleibe, weil ich müde bin.
+Usa "sennò" invece di "aber" per introdurre una condizione o una restrizione.
Only after a negative, when you are replacing what was denied: nicht X, sondern Y. For an ordinary contrast — "expensive but good" — use aber.
+Is denn the same as dann?
Denn è 'perché' (un motivo); dann è 'poi' (una sequenza). Sono separati da una lettera sola e spesso confusi.
