German Booking & Tickets Vocabulary List
This set covers the words you need to buy, hold, and cancel a ticket in German: die Fahrkarte, das Ticket, and die Bordkarte all sit close together in meaning but not in use. Fahrkarte is the traditional word for bus and train tickets, while Ticket has spread from English into everyday German for flights, events, and increasingly transport too. Note that das Ticket takes das, not der, which trips up a lot of English speakers assuming it works like the English noun.

How to learn this set
Group die Abfahrt and die Ankunft together since they're built on the same pattern (fahren/kommen plus a prefix showing direction) and always show up side by side on a Fahrplan. Notice that die Fahrkarte and die Rückfahrkarte share a root, so once you have Fahrkarte down, Rückfahrkarte is just "return" bolted onto it. For the verbs, drill buchen, reservieren, and stornieren as a small action sequence: you buchen a flight, reservieren a seat, and sometimes stornieren the whole thing, since that's the real order you'll use them in when actually booking travel.

Fahrkarte oder Ticket: was ist der Unterschied?
Kein Unterschied in der Bedeutung, nur im Register. Fahrkarte ist der klassische Ausdruck für Bus- und Bahnfahrscheine, Ticket ist die informelle, aus dem Englischen übernommene Variante, die man auch für Flüge oder Konzerte benutzt.
Was ist der Unterschied zwischen buchen und reservieren?
Buchen heißt, etwas fest zu kaufen oder festzulegen, zum Beispiel einen Flug buchen. Reservieren heißt, einen Platz vorab zu sichern, ohne ihn schon zu bezahlen, zum Beispiel einen Tisch reservieren.
Ist Ticket männlich oder sächlich?
Ticket ist sächlich: das Ticket, Plural die Tickets. Das gilt auch für das Billett, das seltener vorkommt und eher in der Schweiz und Österreich benutzt wird.
