How to learn this set
Group the words by root instead of by level: langweilig, langweilen, and die Langeweile all share the same core, so learning one unlocks the other two. The same works for gleichgültig and die Gleichgültigkeit, and for monoton and die Monotonie. Watch der Stumpfsinn, which is built from stumpf plus Sinn (literally "blunted sense"), a useful mental image for why it means mindless dullness rather than just "boring." When you drill the six nouns, say each one with its article out loud (die Langeweile, das Desinteresse, die Monotonie, das Nichtstun, der Stumpfsinn, die Gleichgültigkeit), since guessing gender here isn't intuitive from the word alone.

What is the difference between langweilig and öde in German?
Langweilig is the neutral, everyday word for boring, used for anything from a book to a meeting. Öde carries a stronger sense of bleak, dreary emptiness, like a deserted town or a job that drains you, so it feels more literary or emotional.
Is gleichgültig the same as egal?
They overlap but aren't identical. Egal is casual and usually means something doesn't matter to you personally (Das ist mir egal), while gleichgültig describes a more general trait or attitude of indifference, as in ein gleichgültiger Blick.
What's the difference between langweilen and sich langweilen?
Langweilen without sich means to bore someone else (Der Film langweilt mich). Sich langweilen means you are the one who is bored (Ich langweile mich). Mixing these up is the most common mistake with this verb.
