This set covers the vocabulary you need to talk about art seriously: die Kunst itself, plus the people and objects around it like der Künstler, die Bildhauerkunst, and das Gemälde. One trap for English speakers is die Kunstkritik: it means art criticism as a field or a specific review, not "critique" in the vague sense English sometimes uses, and it's always feminine like most -kritik compounds.

How to learn this set
Notice how many words here are built from Kunst- or -farbe: die Kunstgalerie, die Kunstgeschichte, die Kunstkritik share one root, while die Farbgebung, die Farbpalette, and die Komplementärfarbe share another. Learn the root word's gender first (die Kunst, die Farbe) and the compound almost always inherits it, which cuts your memorization work roughly in half. Drill der Bildhauer against die Bildhauerkunst side by side, since one is the person and the other is the craft, a distinction English blurs into just "sculptor" and "sculpture" without the shared stem making the link obvious.

Is der Künstler used for artists in general or only men?
Der Künstler is grammatically masculine and traditionally used for a male artist or as the generic term when gender is unspecified. For a woman, use die Künstlerin; German requires this switch for most professions.
What is the difference between das Bild and das Gemälde?
Das Bild is the general word for picture or image, covering photos, drawings, and paintings alike. Das Gemälde specifically means a painting, so a museum wall label will say Gemälde, not Bild.
Why is die Kunst feminine when English has no gender for art?
German assigns grammatical gender to abstract nouns with no logical link to meaning, and die Kunst simply falls in the feminine class along with die Ästhetik and die Komposition. There is no rule to derive this from English, so it has to be memorized with the article attached.
