German Meetings & Presentations Vocabulary
This set covers the vocabulary of office meetings, from setting die Tagesordnung (the agenda) to protokollieren (taking minutes) once die Sitzung is underway. Watch die Darstellung: it looks like it should mean "presentation" in the PowerPoint sense, but it more often means how something is presented or depicted, closer to "account" or "portrayal" than to der Beamer and slides.

How to learn this set
Group the three near-synonyms for "presentation" together and drill them by context rather than by translation: Präsentation for a slide deck, Referat for a school report, Darstellung for a written or spoken account of facts. Notice that vertagen and protokollieren are both meeting-specific verbs with no everyday use outside this topic, so pair each one with a fixed phrase, eine Sitzung vertagen, ein Protokoll führen, to fix them in memory. For gender, most nouns here are feminine (die Tagesordnung, die Besprechung, die Konferenz, die Sitzung), which is worth noticing since it lets you guess right more often than not in this specific set.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Besprechung and Sitzung?
Both mean meeting, but Sitzung is more formal and often has a fixed structure, like a Sitzung des Ausschusses (committee session). Besprechung is the everyday word for a work meeting or discussion, formal or not.
What is the difference between Präsentation, Referat, and Darstellung?
Präsentation is the general word for a presentation, often with slides. Referat is more specific to school or university, a spoken report on a topic. Darstellung is broader still and can mean presentation in the sense of how something is depicted or explained, not necessarily a talk you give.
Is Tagesordnung the same as Protokoll?
No. Die Tagesordnung is the agenda, set before the meeting to list what will be discussed. The verb protokollieren describes writing minutes during or after the meeting, recording what was actually said and decided.
