How to learn this set
Most nouns here are masculine (der Soldat, der Panzer, der Oberst, der Leutnant, der Befehlshaber), which tracks with a pattern in German: agent nouns and military ranks default to der unless there's a specific feminine form. The one plural-only trap is die Streitkräfte, which has no singular, so don't try to force an "ein Streitkraft." For the compound-heavy words, break them down: Schießpulver is schießen (to shoot) + Pulver (powder), and Fallschirmjäger is Fallschirm (parachute) + Jäger (hunter) - once you see the pieces, you won't need to memorize the whole word cold. Drill Dienstgrad against the actual rank names (Leutnant, Oberst) so you learn the category word and its members together instead of as isolated vocabulary.

Is das Heer the same as die Armee?
Yes, largely. Heer usually refers to the army as one of the three branches of the Bundeswehr (alongside Luftwaffe and Marine), while Armee is a more general term also used for foreign armies. In everyday speech Germans often just say Bundeswehr.
What is the difference between der Streitkräfte and das Heer?
Streitkräfte (note: it's actually die Streitkräfte, plural only) means the armed forces as a whole, covering army, air force, and navy together. Heer is just the land forces, one part of the Streitkräfte.
What rank is a Leutnant compared to an Oberst?
Leutnant is a junior officer rank, roughly equivalent to a second lieutenant. Oberst is much higher, equivalent to a colonel or group captain, several ranks above Leutnant.
