German Quantity & Amount Vocabulary
This set covers the German words you need to say how much or how many of something there is, from vague amounts like ein bisschen and etwa to precise ones like mindestens and ein Mehrfaches von. It also draws a line English blurs: German splits "amount" between die Menge (a quantity or crowd) and die Anzahl (a countable number), so eine Anzahl von Fehlern and eine Menge Arbeit use different nouns depending on whether you're counting or measuring.

How to learn this set
Group the approximation words together first: etwa, circa, and ungefähr all mean roughly the same thing and swap in and out before a number, so drill them as one cluster rather than three separate flashcards. Notice that jeder, manch, and mehrere all take adjective-style endings that change with the noun's gender and case (jeder Mann, manche Frau, mehrere Kinder), so practice them with a few different nouns rather than in isolation. Also pin down ausreichen as a verb next to its adjective cousin genug and noun-ish übrig, since English speakers often reach for a genug-only phrase where German would use ausreichen (Das reicht aus) or übrig (Es ist noch etwas übrig).

What is the difference between wenig and ein bisschen?
Wenig means 'little' in the sense of 'not much' and can sound like a shortage: wenig Zeit (not much time). Ein bisschen is more casual and neutral, closer to 'a bit of' — ein bisschen Zeit just means 'a little time', without the negative undertone.
What is the difference between etwa, circa, and ungefähr?
All three mean 'approximately' and are largely interchangeable before numbers: etwa 20 Leute, circa 20 Leute, ungefähr 20 Leute. Circa is the most common in writing and is often abbreviated ca., while etwa and ungefähr are more typical in speech.
Is Menge the right word for 'amount' in German?
Menge works for both 'amount' and 'crowd' — eine Menge Arbeit is 'a lot of work', and eine Menge Leute is 'a crowd of people'. For a countable number specifically, use Anzahl instead, as in eine geringe Anzahl von Fehlern (a small number of errors).
